Covering Letter Advice

A job application is usually accompanied by a covering letter, which provides the potential employer with an overview of your suitability for the job. It’s a great way to introduce yourself. Generally, cover letters should be no more than one page in length and should be divided into a header, introduction, body and closing. Some key points are:

  • Write individual cover letters for each job you apply for tailoring each cover letter for individual roles
  • Reference where you learnt of the vacancy
  • Explain why you are sending the application
  • Convince the reader to look at your CV by highlighting your suitability for the role
  • Give them examples of why you are the best choice
  • Keep it simple
